Growing up in the South of England in Sussex, Warren had boy’s trials with Southampton FC, Brighton FC and later on with Chelsea FC where he attended weekly youth team training sessions at Stamford Bridge (on the pitch and  when it was too wet, in the car park!).

Warren later went onto play semi-professional football in Sussex & Surrey, starting with Horsham Town U18’s and 1st Team (1987/88-1989/90) before moving to their close neighbours, Horsham YMCA (1990/91-2001/02) where he spent most of his career playing in the Sussex County League, with a brief spell at Woking FC. In the 1999/2000 season Horsham YMCA reached the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round for the first time in their history, going the furthest of any non-league club and featuring in The Sun national newspaper as well as Sky Sports and on Match of the Day! Warren has continued to play for and coach an amateur men’s football team in Hong Kong in the Yau Yee League. He has also represented the league in the annual Hong Kong Soccer 7’s Masters tournament, and in 2016 he was player/coach for the team when they won the Plate competition.
